Paul Dent

Trauma and Addiction Counsellor

With a psychodynamic underpinning, my main theoretical approach is very much from the perspective of trauma and addiction and the impact on the relationship. The tools I use are primarily Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and couples counselling delivered either face-to-face or online, focusing on delivering positive solutions that enable you to move forward.

I am a registered member of the British Assocation of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (BACP), and I predominantly (but not exclusively) work globally online and face-to-face with couples, gay men and others from the LGBTQA+ Community; particularly in the area of trauma, early life experiences and relationships.

More Details

Previously an accredited Sport Psychologist working with a number of Olympic athletes,  I retrained as a relationship counsellor at the prestigious Tavistock Insitute leading onto a post-graduate qualification as a psychodynamic therapist.  I have supported this with intense courses in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), a Diploma in Supervision, ASIST Suicide Training course and MSc online module in Trauma Informed Practice through Sussex University.

Through my work as a clinical manager for a national Addiction charity, I have focused very much on impact of trauma (Adverse Childhood Experiences) and maladaptive coping mechanisms leading to addiction. I have become even more aware of the impact on the “affected other” incorporating my early training on “relationships” – however that may be defined.
